Art on a budget...

About a year ago, we added onto our little home to make room for our second child. It doubled the square footage!! (It pays to have a husband that's a contractor) So, needless to say, we were a little short on furniture and accessories to fill the extra space. And with two new additions (baby, and home) we couldn't quite afford to fill it all up at once. What is one to do??
I was focusing more on furniture, but I can not stand to have bare walls! So, I decided, if I couldn't afford art for my walls, I was going to make my own.
I've always done art work, ever since I was a kid, but never took the time to do more then pencil and chalk sketches in art books. So I grabbed my paint brushes, and some paint I had left over from another project, and started filling up the bare space on my new, tall walls (vaulted ceilings).


I painted flowers on a few corners of my bedroom...

Then I grabbed a few canvases I had on hand, and painted 3 pieces I could put above my bed.

I also love photography, so I started looking through my pictures, and found some to blow up and hang up. Why not? The best art you can put in your home is yours. It makes you feel as though your home is more of a reflection of you.

I made this bag from a skirt I got from France that sadly, after having babies, would never fit me again. I didn't want to just give it to a thrift store, so I decided I would make a purse out of it.

Happy Fall...

Fall!! It is my favorite season!! I love the cool weather, wearing sweaters, celebrating Thanksgiving with family and friends, and eating the delicious food, the smells...but my favorite part of the season is the colors. Rusty orange, mustard, chestnut, cranberry...They're so warm and beautiful together!

Fall Skirt...

So, I've been sewing like a mad-woman this week, trying to get some custom orders done, get some more items on my shop since there are only 3 on there now, as well as sew some items for myself and my family. Sadly, my Grandmother passed away a couple of months ago, and as we were going through her things and deciding what we all wanted to keep of hers for memories, we came across all of my grandmother's vintage fabric (including a ton of amazing upholstery fabric!!) and vintage sewing patterns. I, of coarse, was extremely excited! My sisters took a few pieces of fabric, and I told them if they let me take the rest, including the upholstery fabric, I would make all of them fun things with it. And they agreed!! Woo hoo!!

So this is the first thing that I have made with some of the vintage fabric. The colors reminded me of fall, which is my favorite season. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! I'm excited to create some more, and to give them to all the women in my family! Love you guys!! :)

Shop Ruche, my favorite online store, just got their fall items up on their site. I love fall! I love wearing sweaters and hats and boots, and scarves. They have so many cute things on their site! These are a couple that I want. Now the question is: who's going to buy them for me??

Want the best freezer jam??

So, last night, I made some raspberry freezer jam, and last week I made strawberry freezer jam. My sister introduced me to the recipe, and it is so delicious, we just can't get enough! And it's so simple too!! Seriously, anyone can do it, and pull it off, as long as you get the measurements exact. We like to get the big containers of strawberries or raspberries from costco, and use the recipe inside the box of Sure Jell fruit pectin. It's the "Quick and Easy Freezer Jam" recipe. Yummy!!! Now we're all stocked up for a few months! The husband will be pleased...

I only have five bottles/tupperware of the raspberry, but with the container of strawberries from Costco, there's enough to do a double batch of strawberry jam, so I have way more strawberry. It's all delicious!
